Principals discussed in Ryan Braun's swing analysis video below can PERMANENTLY fix the two most common - not to mention frustrating - swing mistakes:
Most of the common fixes are temporary, if at all. Believe me, I've tried everything with my students.
With lunging, I've tried:
None of these seemed to work long-term.
With arm-barring, I've tried:
None worked for any length of time. And worst of all, when the hitter got tired, they defaulted back to their arm barring movement. The solution didn't stick AND was frustrating for me, the student, and the parents.
This Pandora's Box drove me - fanatically - to look closely at current human movement Science and research. What I found was astonishing. It made total sense. AND, I started to see the Principals in other explosive rotational athletes, over and over again.
The reality of our body is this...
In a previous Swing Smarter article, I talked about how the human body closely resembles the springiness of a Red Kangaroo.
In that article, I also talked about how opposing compression and tension forces are at work within the body...who's sole purpose is to go to battle daily with Gravity and Gravitational Reaction Forces.
And finally, in that piece we discussed how elite small hitters (like Ryan Braun) can hit like big ones, using the Catapult Loading System. Our body's own evolutionary springy mechanism - much like a kangaroo's!
And what I've found is that the Catapult Loading System cured a student of mine's stubborn three-year-holy-war against arm barring...check out his Case Study video here:
How did I fix lunging? This will always be an ongoing battle because a pitcher's sole purpose is to keep hitters off-balanced. BUT, what separates average hitters from above-average ones?
Simple. How well the hitter can make on-the-fly adjustments.
How is this done in the name of lunging?
I actually have my hitters stretch out their stride! Sounds counter-intuitive huh? But if your stride foot gets far enough out to where the pelvis and knee can't get over it, then technically, a hitter will lunge less.
With Charles above, we've begun this process and pitches both his dad and I used to say - till we were blue in the face - "let the ball travel Charles' - he was making on-the-fly adjustments and crushing the ball...maybe not in the gap or over the fence, but for being off balance with the pitch...it was night and day.
In the video analysis below, we'll see whether:
What you're going to learn are the true PRINCIPALS to explosive rotational power, and how ALL rotational athletes have to abide by them...if they want to be successful.
Here's a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson:
"As to the methods there may be a million and then some, but principals are few. The man who grasps principals can successfully select his own methods. The man who tries methods, ignoring principals, is sure to have trouble."
Think of methods (drills) as almost everything you find on YouTube about hitting. Principals are universal laws that govern ALL human movement.
