Joey Myers's Swing Smarter Baseball Hitting Drills Team

I want to start off by saying how much I appreciate your interest in the Joey Myers Swing Smarter Baseball Hitting Drills website. That being said, I also understand your curiosity to find out who's behind the curtain...you never know with the poison being poured into hungry ears these days.

joey-myers-swing-smarter-baseball-hitting-drills My name is Joey Myers and the following is a brief resume, in which I'll reveal:
  • The vision for the Swing Smarter Baseball Hitting Drills Team,
  • Major hitting influences having an impact on my 18 year baseball playing career, and
  • Fresno State Bulldog Stats you can see with your own eyeballs.

Here's where the Joey Myers story begins...it was a cold dark night...wait a minute, let's fast forward 10 years, to...

I began getting occasional private hitting lessons when I was 11 years old, and it was at that time I began studying up on the art of the baseball swing.

That's better, what's more...

My major batting influences at an early age included:

  • Randy Cervelli (local private hitting instructor),
  • Jim Lefebvre's, The Making Of A Hitter, and
  • Ted Williams's, The Science Of Hitting.

Other notable Joey Myers influences later on (sorry, I have to refer to myself in the third person occasionally or else Google won't rank my name higher, in order to find me online...don't worry, it's not because I'm an ego-maniac=-):

  • Charlie Lau,
  • Mike Schmidt's The Mike Schmidt Study,
  • Rod Delmonico's Hit And Run Baseball, and
  • Dave Hudgens's Hitting For Excellence.

And most importantly, I must give credit where credit is due. I had the privilege of learning great hands on fundamentals from past high school and college coaches Mike Noakes, Tim Thiessen, Bob Bennett, and Mike Batesole, respectively.

I played 18 total years of baseball finishing my career after my fourth year of college (2000-2003) as a Fresno State Bulldog (2008 College World Series Champions). I'm very grateful for the success I had at Bullard High School, and getting a scholarship to play at a Division I university, Fresno State, where I started 110 out of the 178 games I played, in the outfield.

You can verify my Fresno State stats at the GO Bulldogs website, which has a Google rank of 6/10 and an Alexa overall web ranking of 39,556, so it's legit, and search with the terms "Joey Myers" below:

Oh yeah, one more thing...please search through years 2000-2003, that's where you'll find me. What's more...

I earned All League and Section honors my senior year of high school, and a Golden Glove with multiple Kiwanis Student/Athlete awards in college.

Unfortunately,

Upon leaving the game, I was left with a bitter taste in my mouth, from a combination of burnout and politics. Shortly thereafter, I took a break to study abroad in Italy (Spring of 2004), with my now wife, and came back four-in-a-half months later with batteries charged. joey-myers-baseball-hitting-drills-on-deck Following the return from Italy, Joey Myers (there it is again) coached soccer for a couple seasons, and then began to slowly ease back into baseball during the Spring of 2006.

It was at this time I started working through the hitting information I acquired early in my career, coaching, and giving lessons. I was able to mesh disciplines, cut through the white noise, and harvest a simplified system for players to swing smarter with power regardless of size or weight.

The great part is, there's NO fancy expensive tools that you need, or beautifully manicured fields to find. A hitting tee and batting weight are the most complicated gadgets, and any ol' park will do (A cage would help but NOT required).

As a bonus, I'm also a certified personal trainer through NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), so this Swing Smarter Baseball Hitting Drills site will have a major training component to it...rest assured, I've been trained by the best coaches, experience, print/media, professional trainers, and the school of hard knocks.

As you already know,

There's a ton of information out there and you'll fall victim to information paralysis, like Mister Joey Myers did in Junior High School. The system I like to teach is simple and efficient, pulling from multiple sources, coaches, and experiences.

As a hitter, I've experienced everything from starting to sitting, major successes to major failures, and ultimately what works and what doesn't in not only playing but coaching as well.

Swing Smarter Baseball Hitting Drills.com is different from "other hitting sites," in that the content is simple, but effective...you'll get training information specifically designed for baseball players BY baseball players, and we'll explore the mental side of baseball through visualization, meditation, and Yoga, because Ted Williams said, "Hitting is 90% from the neck up."

The major tool we use to filter out the noise is Pareto's 80/20 Principal, 20% of the information out there contributes to 80% of success (as the Principal applies to baseball). Coaches and instructors spend way too much time on petty swing details when they should be looking at the few that take care of the many.

Finally, I would love to share quotes (Joey Myers loves quotes BTW) uniquely capturing our Core Vision, with you:

Core Values
"The strength of a tree, begins in the roots"
-Staind lyrics

Ambition and Success
"Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go."
-William Feather

Courage
"It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog."
-Mark Twain

Responsibility & Accountability
"He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else."
-Benjamin Franklin

Also, failure is built into the sport, so kids cannot be babied, they need to suffer bumps and bruises to their egos, they need to strike out, pop up, ground out, so they can grow and progress. Without failure, we never really learn anything.
