Hank Aaron's THREE Tips To Add 60 Feet To Your Drives...

Hank Aaron Swing Analysis

I love this picture of Hank Aaron to the right.  The majority of hitting coaches, instructors, and experts would say he's lunging...and that he can't hit off his front foot.  Or they'd dismiss it totally and say that he's probably seeing a change up or breaking ball and is out in front of the pitch.

But human movement enthusiasts (ahem...Bob Hall) and Scientists have another explanation.

Aaron was a small player who hit like a big one.  According to BaseballReference.com...

  • Was only 6'0", 180lbs.
  • He played from 1954-1976 (23 years) averaging over 30 home-runs and 27 doubles per season.
  • Over his fruitful career, he amassed a .374 On-Base%, .555 Slug%, and together, added to a .928 On-Base + Slug%.

Pretty good for a "little guy".  And even more impressive that he did it NOT using PED's, and was in the midst of intense ignorant racism. Did you know, Aaron entered the Big Leagues only seven years after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier!?

What people don't talk about is how friction-free his swing was.  If Henry Aaron could put his TOP THREE TIPS into words for adding 60 feet to your drives, he would say:

  1. You HAVE TO un-weight the bat using forward momentum (pictured above),
  2. The spine MUST be the engine that drives bat speed, and
  3. If you're NOT USING the Catapult Loading System, you won't reach your full consistent power potential.

I could go on for days about all three of these topics, however your time (as well as mine) is limited.  In this article and hitting analysis below, I want to discuss the concept of a Catapult Loading System.

In a previously discussed article, I talked about how the body is springy like a Red Kangaroo.

The springiness in our body comes in the form of connective tissue, particularly myofascia (said like my-o-fasha).  A cotton candy or spider web-like material that, according to Thomas Myers in his book Anatomy Trains, is what the muscles and bones 'float' in.

Myofascia: cotton candy?

Myofascia is made up of collagen fibers, and to the body, is like steel to the building industry.  It's very tensile and resistant to any change in its shape.  Just look at Joan Rivers's face!

Myofascia, bones, and muscles have an opposing relationship within our bodies.  These tension and compression forces act on us at all times.  We can all thank God and Mother Earth for this...please direct any thank you emails to: Gravity & Gravitational Reaction Forces Inc..

We're going to see how these internal forces, which I call the Stability "X" Pattern, contributes to how Hank Aaron exploits the body's own natural Catapult Loading System resources.

PLEASE NOTE: hitting isn't unique to the Catapult Loading System.  You'll also see an Olympic World Record Holder in the Discus Throw utilize it as well.  We're talking 'human' movement here, not just 'hitting' movement.

In the video analysis below, we'll see whether:

  • Hank Aaron 'primed-the-pump' by un-weighting the bat using forward momentum (key element to a friction-free swing),
  • How the Stability "X" Pattern is engaged to give Aaron's body the advantage of being springy like a kangaroo, and
  • We see the Catapult Loading System in all its glory.

What you're going to learn are the true PRINCIPALS to explosive rotational power, and how ALL rotational athletes have to abide by them...if they want to be successful.

Here's a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson:

"As to the methods there may be a million and then some, but principals are few.  The man who grasps principals can successfully select his own methods. The man who tries methods, ignoring principals, is sure to have trouble."

Think of methods (drills) as almost everything you find on YouTube about hitting.  Principals are universal laws that govern ALL human movement.
